Linda has been painting about 12 years. It started with classes offered by a local artist teaching acrylics on fabric, then went to acrylics on wood and other surfaces, and finally to using oils. She then began classes under another artist using all oils, but her favorite medium is acrylics.
Linda is especially fond of painting on gourds. She lives on a farm near Greenwood, Arkansas, and grows several different kinds of gourds. She dries and cleans them before starting the actual painting. Santas are a specialty - not only larger gourd Santas, but also ornaments.
Linda has won Best of Show and blue ribbons in oils at local fairs. She has a Santa gourd ornament in Washington, D.C. on the tree for Women of the Arts in America, and has exhibited in the Annual Gourd Exhibition in Japan.
Most of her creations are sold from home or at an annual craft gathering of juried artists. She is an active member of the Greenwood Art Guild and occasionally will give instructional classes in the use of acrylics, especially in gourd work. She participated in the painting of a mural of "quilts" on the outside of a fabric shop in Greenwood, AR, as well as a mural of underwater plant and sea life on an inside wall of the Greenwood High School Science Building.
Linda has a husband and two sons at home. She has a son in Houston in college and a daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons in Northern Arkansas, so life is very busy! Painting is a side-line that is really enjoyed, although she wishes she had more time to paint!
